Dear Friends of the 11th Street Bridge Park,
We wanted to give you an update on our work creating DC's first
elevated park over the Anacostia River. We've had a REALLY busy and
productive month! To date we have secured $528,000 in cash and in-kind
support and now have funds available to launch a nation-wide design
competition. All very exciting! We continue to actively raise funds as
part of our $1 million pre-capital campaign goal which includes
implementing an economic development analysis, a health impact
assessment and on-going programming. If you are interested in
supporting the 11th Street Bridge Park, please visit our website and
click on the secure "DONATE" button on the right hand side of the
page.

Thanks in advance for your support!
What we've been up to this fall:
USING TECHNOLOGY TO REALIZE BRIDGE PARK GOALS
Thanks to everyone who came out last night to help brainstorm ways to
deeply embed technology into the 11th Street Bridge Park designs.
Attendees came up with amazing and creative ideas including: virtual
kayak classes, interactive light art displays, crowd-sourced
performances and embedded sensors measuring visitors' exercise. We
captured all these great ideas and will post them on our website soon.
A big thank you to PEPCO Regional President Donna Cooper who hosted
the event at PEPCO's Edison Place Gallery.
WALK WITH A DOC / 11th STREET BRIDGE PARK TOUR - NOVEMBER 13
In an effort to engage members of the local health community with our
project, we are partnering with Dr. Ted Eytan, Director of Kaiser
Permanente's Center for Total Health for a site tour the morning of
Wednesday, November 13. We'll discuss ways to ensure this new civic
space can benefit visitors' health by providing a safe place for
active recreation and showcase urban food production. We have a few
spots left - you can RSVP here if you'd like to join us:

COMMUNITY DESIGN MEETINGS - DECEMBER 7!!!
Our next BIG public meeting is a pair of community design meetings
generously supported by the Urban Land Institute Washington, Urban
Land Institute Foundation and the computer design firm Autodesk. On
Saturday, December 7 you have two chances to help shape the 11th
Street Bridge Park! We will hold a morning session at Matthews
Memorial Baptist Church from 8 am - noon. Can't make the morning
session? Join us for an afternoon session from 2 - 6 pm at 200 I St.
SE by the Navy Yard metro station. At these meetings we'll give an
update about the project, work in smaller groups to help prioritize
programming suggestions for the Bridge Park, and wrap up by using
Autodesk's cutting-edge software to rapidly prototype programming
concepts. This community-generated feedback will be incorporated into
our nation-wide design competition (we're starting to work with a
consultant to kick off this effort.)

Help spread the word! I'm attaching a flyer about the community design
meetings to this e-mail.
COMMUNITY FILMS!
Over the summer, talented film makers from Capitol Hill's Pendragwn
Productions interviewed local church leaders, government officals, ANC
Commissioners, artists and nearby residents capturing why they are
supporting the 11th Street Bridge Park. We screened the films last
night for the first time and received great feedback! We'll be posting
the films on our website soon for all to see. A HUGE thank you to film
makers Kenyon, Madison, and Ben for their hard work. And a special
thank you to Pendragwn Productions owner Michael Skinner for this
generous donation of time, energy & passion.
As always, we welcome your thoughts, ideas and suggestions. Feel free
to e-mail, tweet or call. In our next e-mail we'll have an update on
the nation-wide design competition to be launched very soon.
All the best,
Scott Kratz
