National Lights On Afterschool! Rally @ Orr Elementary School

Witness education reform in DC after 3pm.

Come witness superman and the superhero staff from Ward 8 in action.  The Orr Elementary School Afterschool Program will sponsor Lights On Afterschool rally/showcase on October 21 at 4:30 p.m.  It will be one of more than 7,500 such events around the nation and 110 DCPS local events. Speakers from the District of Columbia will call for expanding afterschool opportunities so that every child who needs a program has access to one.
DCPS education reform has changed the historical afterschool program from predominately centers for homework and babysitting into a hub for academics, enrichment and wellness. Thursday's event will highlight high quality programming, keeping kids safe and healthy, inspiring them to learn, and relieving working parents of worries about their children's activities during the afternoon hours.

You will witness academic power hour, data-driven instruction, arts and crafts, organized sports( soccer, baseball,etc..) educational play, hip hop mathematics, muppet shows, logic and reasoning games, and much more.  Hundreds of students, parents, supporters and community members, elected officials, and dignitaries are expected to attend.
