In Pictures: ACM Family Day

On Saturday, July 23, 2011 the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum hosted it's Family Day: All Things Gullah. Great event with music, arts and crafts, and a Gullah marketplace. Great way to spend the day in Anacostia.

ABOUT HISTORIC ANACOSTIA

Historic Anacostia is a neighborhood in Ward 8 located in Washington, D.C.

Incorporated in 1854 as "Uniontown" the neighborhood was one of the first suburbs in the District of Columbia. The name "Anacostia" comes from an early settlement of Necostan or Anacostan Indians who lived on the banks of the Anacostia River.

"The core of the Anacostia historic district was incorporated in 1854 and is approximately 20 squares.
