On Saturday, volunteers from the Ward 8 community and ARCH Development Corporation staff spent the day installing twenty art panels on the fences at the corner of Good Hope Rd SE and MLK Jr. Ave SE and on the 2200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, SE. The purpose of the beautification project was to bring art to the community while combating blight. The project was made possible by a partnership of the
ARCH Development Corporation,
Four Points LLC, and the
DC Department of Housing and Community Development.
The images used for the panels came from East of the River artists or highlighted East of the River subjects. Printing was done by Anacostia's own
Vivid Solutions DC Print Lab (2208 MLK, Jr. Ave SE).
The best news? There is plenty of room for more panels! If your organization or business is interested in sponsoring more art panels for these locations or others contact Andrea Hope at
ahope@archdc.org.
